The retro stylings of this band was a great opportunity to capture a mood, time and place...not to mention some great musicians doing their thing.

"The Idaho Mexican Music Project is an evolving, long-term effort to document musicians and musical traditions throughout southern Idaho. Inspired by a similar project from 1982, the Idaho Mexican Music Project is focused on the agricultural region of the Snake River Plain, where Mexican communities have established themselves as economic and workforce contributors yet, in terms of cultural and social benefactors, remain hidden from plain sight." Arts Idaho Incredibly honored to have been invited to the American Folklore Society annual meeting in Portland this past week to present and discuss the creation of special series of films, with the Idaho Commission on the Arts
Special congrats to “folk and traditional arts” Director, Steven Hatcher on initiating this project and his decision to include FEAT1STFILMS as a collaborator. Check out the films Here:
I had dreams of being a documentary filmmaker way back in the year 2000 CE...
This footage featuring American bullfighter, David Moss, was shot with four mini DV cameras in standard definition. Digitizing the footage was time consuming but I was excited to travel back in time and relive an adventure. My editing skills were in their infancy way back then, but have since grown into a career, and I was keen to put them to use on this. To add to my excitement I had recently purchased a new program that promised to de-interlace and upscale the old SD footage to HD quality. Topaz Video AI certainly worked to improve the clarity of the image and will be a welcome addition to my editing toolbox going forward.
A Bullfighter Prepares
Thirty six years after his last Bullfight in Spain, American matador, David Moss, returns to the ring to test the boundaries of memory and time.
This is one of my favorite projects. A few years back I spent the good part of a day with Dave and Jock and was thrilled to tell their story for The Idaho Commission On The Arts. I was thrilled to get a call asking me to shave 30 seconds off the film so it could air as part of a series of shorts on Idaho Public Television. Revisiting the footage was fun and I was reminded of how much I loved this two guys and the access they allowed me..
A slug seemed like the perfect subject to test this new manual focus macro lens. a slow moving subject was ideal for getting to know this lens with such shallow depth of field.
